School Based Trainings

I am a Trauma-Based Therapist with experience in many facets of trauma related to kids, adolescents, and adults. Throughout my career, I have worked as an International Humanitarian Aid Trauma Responder, opened Inpatient and Outpatient Crisis Facilities, and worked within the Special Education field providing various counseling and behavioral services. Currently, I contract with various school districts in and around Jefferson, Hardin, Orange and Chambers Counties offering a wide variety of services, while also running a successful private practice.  In my practice, I work with many children, adolescents, parents, and teacher – all of whom are deeply concerned about the unpredictable future of school re-entry due to COVID-19.

During my deployment as a Humanitarian Aid Responder, I was tasked with training police officers, medical and school personnel, firefighters, and other first responders who experienced trauma while continuing to serve the public who also were traumatized for various reasons. The goal was to help professionals understand and implement researched-based practices to reduce the likelihood of re-traumatization to both the professional as well as the clients, students, or patients. I have tailored many of the trainings specifically for school personnel as they re-enter the school system during COVID19. Training programs for teachers and other school personnel focus on various topics such as:

  • Strategies and supports for students, families, and staff members for each phase of recovery (before reopening, immediately after reopening, and long-term support).

  • Teaching skills in validation and acknowledging everyone has/had a different experience from COVID-19, and not everyone in each school will be in the same place in recovery.
